Tank Applications
A tank in a system can be looked at as a bag of air. This tank of compressible air acts as a cushion in the system and allows water to enter the tank and maintain system pressure at or below design limits.
Expansion Tanks
An expansion tank is used in a closed loop heating or cooling HVAC system. When the water or glycol in the system is heated, the liquid will expand and the tank provides a place for the expanded water to go without allowing the resultant pressures to exceed the design of the system.
Thermal Expansion Tanks
Thermal expansion tanks are used in a potable hot water system where a back-flow preventer or a check valve is placed between the heater and the water source. They perform the same function in the domestic hot water system as the expansion tank except for hot potable water only.
Hydropneumatic Tanks
Hydropneumatic tanks are for cold potable water storage. Their function is to provide water to a system when the supply pump is in the off position. The tank is to supply water (drawdown) to the system as determined by the designer.
Shock & Surge Tanks
Shock & Surge Tanks are ASME replaceable bladder type pre-charged hydropneumatic tanks for commercial, industrial, municipal and well water systems, to effectively control water hammer shock, and pump start-up/shot-down water surge.
